The Rose Corporation was awarded the prestigious Ontario Home Builders Association (OHBA) 2022 Architectural Award of Distinction in the Production Built Home category for a townhome in its King George School Lofts and Town Homes development.
Unique to the other townhouses in the King George development, the layout of the winning home was designed to incorporate the century old tree that sits in the centre of the lot. Rather than a yard at the back, this home features a sideyard in the centre of the lot directly under the tree providing shade and a uniquely private enclosure. The interior layout allows residents to enjoy the view of the tree and sideyard from their living room, dining room and bedrooms.
Daniel Berholz, The Rose Corporation’s President and Partner commented “The Rose Corporation is honoured to receive this notable recognition of this special home that was part of The King George School Lofts and Town Homes development. Our team made preserving the century old tree on the lot a priority which necessitated designing the home around it. We were thrilled with how the townhome turned out and it is a great honour to see it recognized with an OHBA award.”
The King George School building was built in 1912 and was Newmarket’s oldest learning institution functioning as a primary school until 1983. After more than 100 years, the King George School building enjoyed a long-deserved restoration as part of the project by turning the vacant schoolhouse and two adjacent abandoned bungalows into 11 condominium lofts within the old school building surrounded by 14 two-storey freehold town homes.
The OHBA’s Production Built Home (Two Storeys up to 2500 SF) award recognizes the best architectural design of a production-built home (2 storeys up to 2500 SF) by an OHBA builder member. Entries are judged on use of Space, functionality, uniqueness of the interior and exterior design.
